Mikoto Edition.
She is the 3rd Genome processing a soul.
Both she and Kuja were created with fully grown bodies. Only Zidane started as a baby. Mikoto is only 9 months old. But she was created to replace Zidane and Kuja if they fail their mission. The question is, what happened to prompt Garland to create Mikoto 9 months before the start of the game?

Because Zidane was created as a baby, Garland had to wait for him to mature. We can reason that if Zidane didn't return to Terra on his own then Mikoto would have traveled to Gaia herself to retrieve him.That would have been a lot more interesting. What she ended up being was a glorified door greeter once Zidane arrives to Terra.
But the fact that she had a name, and a purpose, and made these acknowledgements that Zidane "doesn't remember" who he is - which is strange. She might have factored into Freya's unfinished story arc as well, since Fratley also doesn't remember himself.

Btw. I believe "Genome" is misspelled. Or at least the sense of it is lost.
I believe it's supposed to be named after Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9, also called "Jeunehomme" or "Jenamy". Where Mozart got the name is another story.The fact is, Final Fantasy likes to use these musical and opera names for things. Like in FF11, there is the city of Jeuno, governed by Zilart princes.

The lore for FF11 is the worst. It's vaguely worded.So FF9 had Memoria.
Well, FF11 had Promyvion. But it's never really explained what it is or how we get there. At the time it had a lot of similarities with the heartless and nobodies of Kingdom Hearts. With some of the Zilart resembling nobodies like Vexen and Larxene.
We never get to see the Zilart King, or an explanation for where the emptyness came from that created the Kuluu.
The hooded organization is similar to the Asciens in 14 as well.

I've never heard this before today. A youtube short said that FFX-2 played with the idea of releasing the game as 2 versions. A Yuna Version and a Rikku version.It's kind of dumb, because Yuna and Rikku don't spend a lot of time apart. So the only difference would be their internal monologues.
But assuming this was an early development decision, then the story could have been radically different.Honestly Rikku didn't have much of a story arc in X-2 compared to Yuna and Paine. But the X-2.5 novella had plenty of world building to add concerning ancient Al Bhed and the machina war.Thinking about the narrative potential here. I can see Mikoto and Garland as characters in Spira's past, and their dynamic is somehow echoed with Rikku and Cid.
