VI kind of inverts what FFV did and takes all the innate abilities and mechanics of each job and, instead of letting you focus them on a small, fixed party of four, spreads them out across a rather large cast of fourteen characters. Instead of customizing a single character with complementary abilities, the idea is to compliment each character's innate stats and skills with the right equipment, espers, spells, and relics. Spellsets are 100% customizable, as every character can learn every spell, and relics are accessories that each character can wear two of. Sometimes they just boost stats or give immunities, but others give you completely new commands, or work in tandem with other relics to let you do some really powerful shit. A good number of things you can accomplish with the job system can also be done with the right combination of abilities, equipment, and spells.I won't lie and say it's as fun as FFV's job system, but it's fun in a different way, and definitely worth playing.
