It's basically as perfect as a remake can get. Exact same story, just with updated visuals and gameplay. It's a new translation from the original western release, so the lines are different from what people remember. It's supposed to be more accurate to the Japanese, with a more word-for-word approach, but some fans miss the lines from the more thought-for-thought translation that was the original release. It's one of those things where you can't make everyone happy, there's pros and cons to both approaches.That aside, you're not going to be disappointed.

Depends on who you ask. I've never managed to get into Trails because I could never make it past the prologue in Sky FC. Been sitting on several of these games in my collection for years, and I couldn't touch them because of that.Then I tried the demo of this remake, and now I'm playing the full game proper. Whether it's thanks to the remake, or something else, at least now I can actually start playing Trails.

I already played this a long time ago and forgot it except for the big parts.
I just started yesterday until the first big tutorial and I am thoroughly impressed already.
The little additions they did stands out a lot. Estelle was already charming before, now she's much more charming really.
I love the graphical update and how it looks, retro but modernized if that makes any sense.

As of now i would actually say yes. It is faithful, has a proper non-fanfic translation, good graphics, good turn-based system, you can choose between 3 different OSTs with the original included, panties are still in and Nightmare difficulty is pretty fun. Im like 10 hours in and i love it so far. Probably my personal GOTY.

I think the original offers a more consistent package. The remake has a lot of weird cutscenes that have bad camera/character acting and the environments vary wildly in detail. The combat isn't good in either game, but original is much more "fuck it, move on" when it's not engaging.Honestly, I'm not sure what would get someone into the remake aside from "it's newer and 3D!" It's the same game.

It definitely plays better, but in terms of charm, it kind of depends on how much you can stand the modern anime paint job Falcom gave it. I'm fifteen hours in so far and I'm really liking it. Just goes to show how rock-solid Sky FC's foundation is as an idea.

This is perfect for me, since I haven't played this game since it's original PSP X-Seed release. I only remember the ending cliffhanger, so this game feels brand new as some things come floating back
I'm gonna have to resist the temptation of immediately jumping to SC after I finish though, since I never played that game and I know it's getting a remake.

Just finished it. Did anybody catch all the hints about Alba the first time they played? They give a pretty big one at the first tower with Joshua getting a headache, but the game is so long that it's so easy to forget that.Now I'm having the exact same reaction I had when I beat it on PSP, except now I can immediately jump to the sequel, or wait again for the remake. Will the OG SC be tough to play if I'm used to all the remake additions?

I used to love these games but I took a break and played other stuff and then came back and I couldn't stand them. It's like everything about them is just designed to waste as much of your time as humanly possible.They take 2, 3, sometimes even 4 games to tell a story any other JRPG could manage in 1. And the characters and the world arent actually deep enough to compensate for this. The worldbuilding of Trails is just as generic and puddle deep as 98% of JRPGs is but theres just a lot of games so people get tricked into thinking it isn't. The characters are also just thin collections of anime tropes with no real depth, except they take 400 hours to have their "epiphany moment" where their character does a complete 180 instead of 20 like other JRPGs.The combat has potential but Falcom are extremely lazy devs who don't actually utilize any of it at all so it ends up being completely brainless. The level and world design is also the dictionary definition of the bare minimum.The series is just slop and while I do sort of have fond memories of my time with it I can't really in good conscience call it a good series anymore.

Just finished the remake, my first Trails game. Really enjoyed it, the ending is a kick in the teeth in a good way, I hope that the sequel comes out soon.
A detail I liked though was that practically everyone was attractive, unless they were meant to be old or actually ugly. Practically every girl has big bouncy boobs. It was so refreshing.

I just finished the original FC with the voice mod, after putting off this series for years because everyone said it started slow and takes a million hours, but I really enjoyed it. I finished around 50 hours but I did a lot of needless back-tracking to check things.SC is supposed to be much longer which is daunting but I'm pretty curious about how the story develops, so I might just dive in. This game reminds me a little of the original xenoblade chronicles, with all the npc development stuff.All that being said, thank god for the inclusion of turbo-mode, and having it not affect the music.

He even had a cheesy moment playing the organ to do the reveal, and Estelle just went "yeah I already knew it was you from your voice."
She wasn't impressed in the least. Best MC.

My recommendation is to get the original, get the undub patch, get someone's finished save file from gamefaqs, carry nothing over, and start NG+ on Nightmare.
