I really enjoy the beginning of the game and the game steadily loses steam right after you leave the Mist Continent. The Mist Continent is so vibrant, many different towns, tons of conflict, wars, etc. etc. Queen Brahne is the little engine of villainy that keeps things moving. Then you get to the Outer Continent and it's basically barren by comparison. We also kill of Queen Brahne who has so much more villain star power than Kuja ever had.The Lost and Forgotten Continents manage to be even more barren than the Outer Continent. It's such a unnecessary flaw with the game. It is one thing when you get to the end of the game and all the NPCs start saying the same things that the world starts feeling dead and empty, but FF9 manages to feel dead and empty before the 3rd Act because of how sparse things are in the other continents and you're given that this is the extent of the entire world of FF9.... There's no reason why any of these locations have to exist on an entirely different continent. We could've just had an Ivalice situation where we have all this same continent, but presented on a smaller scale so that the world feels so much bigger, that there is life outside the boundaries of the Mist Continent, instead of playing on a dead planet. So I'm "Meh" camp.
