I've only done the first 3 locations but it's been my experience that every combat quickly devolves into a frontline of you standing against enemies and whacking each other. Due to the disengagement mechanic most mobility and positioning skills like charge and flanking are nearly worthless, and you get to use them maybe once per combat. I'm tempted to reroll my party and focus entirely on raw damage and defense feats instead.Someone correct me or confirm plz.

Scout is the only background perk worth taking.
Get a couple of levels in thievery on your thief and steal from merchants, it's basically risk free.
Rangers are unsustainable, you will never have enough arrows to use comfortably every fight, and then you're left with a weak melee character and a weak support character that you just press end turn on repeatedly.
Buy and craft every attunement pot you can get.
The only noncombat skills that do something past the very early game are lore (get 6) and diplomacy (get as much as you can). A mage will hit those naturally.
Thieves are better fighters than fighters due to their mobility and ability to disengage freely.

1. It needs good encounter design. It's almost non-existent. Good thing the basics are solid.

It's a perfectly fine game. I've had some issues with encounter design and area readability, but it's nothing that actual retro RPGs don't have and overall it's a nice experience. I really can't imagine having beef with a game made by a solo dev and sold for $15 that offers double digit hours of gameplay though.
