one game anons should check out is New Tetris (N64)
the main addition to the game is the inclusion of recognizing 4x4 blocks of 4 tetrominoes. if the block is made by a single type of piece it forms a gold block, and if it's made of more than one type of piece it forms a silver block.
it's the only modification to Tetris that has ever made sense, and adds a lot of depth to the game, especially in vs. where it is essentially that you can form them no matter how good at normal Tetris you are.
other versions of the game may have included the mechanic as an option, although i'm not aware of any.

Tetris:
https://harddrop.com/wiki/Tetris_Wiki
Tetris Effect: Connected, tetrio, and Puyo Tetris 1 are the most popular for multiplayer.
Play whatever you want for singleplayer; NES Tetris and the Grand Master series are pretty fun.Puyo:

It's a little harder to pin down specific multiplayer games, but matchmaking on PPT1/2 on Switch is at least not hopelessly empty. Puyo 20th, however, is undeniably a favorite for singleplayer and has an English patch.Panel de Pon:
Panel Attack (NOT THE ONE ON STEAM) is a free and open source client with online multiplayer and should run on anything that can run a calculator program. Also has some singleplayer modes including vs yourself.
