You pog at Marvel moments and only play because you run the "endgame", aka running the same 5 dungeons hundreds of times because you're too stupid to play any other game. Requires you to be able to stomach modern Blizzard LGBT BIPOC panderingClassic WoW if you want to experience an outdated ass system with tons of jank and bugs, but actually has a vast wonderful world and community that is basically designed to waste your life. Except all the communities are split into 6 different versions of the game and all hate each other for not playing their favorite version of the game.OSRS if you want a charming, well written and amusing world to explore. Probably has some of the best MMO design ever, except is caged behind a nightmarish top down browser engine and is basically just an infinitely looping grind forever and ever and ever with no meaningful "endgame"ESO if you want to experience a watered down version of TES that has one of the most vile combat systems ever created and also are willing to accept your game is going to be dead by the end of yearFF14 if you're a pedo or only play games to ERP. Or you think some random Japanese version of Marvel fantasy world ending every 10 minutes bullshit story telling is worth sitting through hundreds of hours of dialogue forLiterally any other MMO if you want to convince yourself their nicheness is actually somehow superior to any of the above (DDO, GW2, Albion)

I'll give you a quick rundown.>Quest simulator & raids WoW Classic>The above but more casual and lots of women/ladyboys Modern WoW and FF14>Anime Diablo 2 Ragnarok Online private servers>Sims 1 skill grinding but with quests and shittier gfx OSRS>You need to group up with 5 randoms to spend 4 hours in an exp party to get 1 level FFXI, EQ>Sandbox PVP but you get blobbed by 3rd worlders Eve Online>The above but casualized with a fantasy skin AlbionEverything else is fairly copy-paste unremarkable but if it interests you go for it.

The problem with mmorpgs is that they're a dated formula, that isn't reaching/retaining new audiences, and those that are left are 90% the most annoying people in the world. If you play a mmorpg, chances are the people you will encounter fall into at least one of the following >the singleplayer players You have no idea why they play these games. They don't talk to anyone, refuse to do anything that requires any sort of interaction with others, and spend most of their time doing solo or "parallel play" activities. >the sweats or min/maxers They treat this game like a job. Something taking 5 mins longer than the optimal time will result in them getting annoyed/upset. They will gladly make the game as unfun as possible for themselves and those around them for the sake of a reward dopamine hit. Very prevalent if you play on "streamer servers" or around them. > the "modern" gamer They buy the retarded looking cash store outfits. Do not care about the RPG aspects of the game or lore or immersion or anything like that. Their behavior is very similar to the people who play mobile games, honestly. They will happily support ads in their own game. Or spending 100+ USD on stupid shit in the cash store. They LOVE the "disnification" or whatever people are calling it now. >Furries God they're everywhere. I swear this is one of the biggest demographics in mmorpg players. So many mmorpgs now, including upcoming Gw3, have multiple "furry races". 1/2

Not OP. I miss my OSR and ToonTown days as a kid. Nothing I've played since has had the same charm. I pop into the MMO Bizarre Adventure thread now and then to see peoples' opinions, but that's about it. If something looks like it has potential, it tends to be devs with social agendas and make up for being childless by regulating and policing players. Best I find are multiplayer games that adopt some MMO mechanics, but they tend to be survival games or similar genres.

As someone who has infinity + 500 hours into mmos since I was 6 years old here is my list of actual decent games worth investing time into >Guild wars 1 Recently got some updates, if you consider this an mmo (Its not really, but...) its actually not dead, and because they are trying to build hype for Guildwars 3, and they know actual guildwars players dont play 2, theyve started updating GW1 again. >Haven and Hearth I dont know when the next wipe is; but this game is genuinely fun especially with a group. It looks like a mobile shitfest, but if you like survival games everything you do in H&H takes a solid minute to do, so after doing multiple things and building a house it feels rewarding to have shit made. A second player halves the amount of time it takes for example to cut a tree (And they can help you carry a log aswell). The more players the quicker everything goes. >Division 2 Because 99% of the division 2 is a coop/non mmo game like GW1, this can still be played normally all throughout. PVP is heavily catered to those who have a billion hours into the game however as there are "over maximum level" small stat boost points that add up. This isnt the best game on the list by any means, but it is very much playable. >Once Human The core game is very very cool, the idea surrounding this is cool and it had amazing potential on launch. Developers are more focused on cosmetic IRL money shop shit than balancing weapons and patching bugs that genuinely cause issues, but for a modern game this is decent. Similar to Division 2, it could be fun if you have nothing else to do. Not phenomenal by any means because of issues i could talk about for hours, but this is decent. (Prismverse Clash is the best game mode, but dont start with this as you'll be way too undergeared to compete with other players)>State of Decay 3 I just wanted to put this here to say that its no longer gonna be an mmo. They changed it to another coop game. (When it eventually comes out)
