If the optimization is only the stuff they've listed, it's mainly volumetric clouds and foliage. Which can be additional double digit percent better performance, sure, but doesn't really touch the "lack o' skill" coding of NPCs etc. that's hammering the CPU. Modding seems to still be the go-to on that front.

Surely they must've optimized the game a LOT to get the game running decently on the Switch 2. >It (Switch 2) contains eight Arm Cortex‑A78C cores running a 64‑bit ARMv8 instruction set, with cryptography extensions enabled and no support for 32‑bit code. Clock speeds reach 998 MHz in handheld mode and 1,101 MHz when docked, and the CPU can theoretically burst to 1,700 MHz for demanding operations or future updates.Ignoring the GPU here because they can always just drop the resolution to improve GPU performance, but CPU bottlenecks are a whole other thing, the Switch 2's CPU is pretty much a phone/tablet tier CPU and I would assume it's much weaker than that of the PS5 for example.

Also keep in mind that altering the number of NPCs in any way crashes the game during the battle with the false arisen, any changes they make might have harsh consequences in specific circumstances and they can't afford any more bad PR. Modders can just do whatever they want because the stakes are low

The original DD and DD:DA was one of my favorite games of all time, and I've poured entirely too many hours into it, plumbing the depths of the game.Why then, does DD2 just not hold my interest? The mechanics seem fine (other than no Mystic Knight vocation) the graphics are pretty enough and the exploration is good, something about it just feels off to me.

I sure hope they give an option to turn off the FMVs in the vocation change menu. Lingering on that menu, along with the equipment change menu can cause a hard stuck once you eventually try to exit. feelsbad
