Okay, yeah, I take it back. Olympia is objectively the worst character in the game right now. They took one of the only characters that could actually approach and neutered her into a bait-and-punish character with NONE of the tools that make that archetype function. Her only saving graces are gem and down special, and the former is on a cooldown and loses to basic counterplay (parry, floorhug, mashing, DI) while the latter only works on retards. >dtilt went from one of the best moves in the game to one of the worst, constantly whiffs when you're close enough to tickle your opponent's taint >nair went from one of her best approaching / neutral options to a joke move that opponents fall out of constantly >ftilt is useless >utilt and uair are still decent, but they're only two decent moves >fair and dair are slow and get beaten by shield >literally every button she presses on shield is beaten by buffered shieldgrab except perfectly spaced ftilt (which is beaten by wavedash OoS) and fair >has no pokes >has no neutral tools except a projectile with a cooldown >effectively has no strong attacks, every single one has an unusable risk:reward ratio except ustrong, which is weak as shit Literally all this character can do now is spam full hop bair while you pray that the opponent is retarded enough to not know to shield the jab / utilt follow-up... and grab, which every character can do. She serves no fucking purpose.

I want to get into this game, but I have two issues right now. First, I don't really "feel" any of the characters. None of them clicks with me, and it doesn't help that are so little to chose from. That's my own issue, but the second one is about inputs. I don't know if it's my controller or some configuration, but I for the life of me cannot get consistent inputs. I am using an 8-bit Do Ultimate 2 for reference.

Just got Rivals 1 to fuck around with the workshop mods with a buddy and have really fell in love with it despite expecting it to like impenetrably hard for me. Even just a few days in I've found the little world and characters a lotta fun, already grabbed the other aether games though I think I'll hold off on rivals 2 for a bit to fully enjoy 1. Also big respect to people making good workshop characters that are on theme and fit the game's setting and art style

It feels like the developers have basically been silent since the Slade patch. If the Gouie patch shows that they're at least listening to common criticisms, I'll have faith. But if at least one of these issue isn't addressed, I'm not going to be the only person pissed off: >Olympia was absolutely gutted by 1.5.5, while Clairen and Zetterburn continue to receives slaps on the wrist >La Reina's recovery and her dtilt and either her dair or uair need nerfs >Floorhugging is still too strong and overcentralizing at low %s >too many moves are too safe in neutral, which makes whiff punishing weak and floorhugging even more overcentralizing* I've put like 110 levels into La Reina and that character is fucking brain dead.* - The more I play the game, the more I feel like wavedash OoS is as important as floorhugging as a defensive option, but the fact of the matter is that it's an unintuitive option to the average player. I think this is also one of the reasons that players find characters like Clairen and Loxodont frustrating to fight, because their jabs and tilts practically require you to practice wavedash OoS to punish them.

Anyone getting stutters when the game is loading assets like death effects for the first time? Usually what would happen is that it would render a lower quality version the first time it was rendered. Now I get .5s stutters instead.

So sick of fighting Loxodont. I don't think he's that brainless, but playing neutral against him is so, so fucking boring. Not to mention that every single Loxodont player micro-stalls every single game by going to ledge between stocks. I used to play Olympia because she could rush him and Clairen down, but now she's so slow in the air the Loxodont can outrun any attempt to approach.
