A place for discussing all tactical video games with a focus on multiplayer games. Both co-op and PvP games are welcome. All discussion of games that already have a thread (Hunt, Tarkov, Arma, CS2 etc) goes in that thread.

on that note though I already can see exactly what you're talking about mapwise. My gut instinct with insurgency sandstorm has always been that it's got this stellar core gunplay element which is imo the best in the industry that I've played (so much so in fact that every other shooter I've tried feels like shit by comparison, to the extent that insurgency sandstorm is now the only fps I regularly play with around 2k hours down), but the rest of the game suffers from a lack of clear vision and a massive failure to account for the fact that you only have around 14 ish players on any given map. that works just fine for most maps, but on some maps like powerplant, trainyard, or forest it can feel way too large. inversely you run this problem where some maps are simply not at all designed for some gamemodes, like prison for instance somehow being allowed to exist as a push map. My personal opinion though is that if you can somehow retain
>the gunplay
>the ballistics
>the equipment selection system
>the sound design
>the pace of gameplay
>the balance it strikes between being less 'hardcore' than arma/tarkov/squad but more tactical than COD/Battlefield
but then add in
>gamemodes with much greater scale and numbers of players relative to the maps
>greater environmental destruction capabilities (one thing I would murder for is having artillery actually be able to destroy certain buildings, and also being able to breach through walls with C4/IEDs
>maps properly designed relative to the intended gamemode
>gameplay balance reoriented to significantly disincentivise ridiculous spawncamping spots (camping in and of itself can be fine, it's meant to be realistic and entrenched gun nests / sniper nests are absolutely a necessary feature, the problem is that you get people who can sit on a wall 400 metres away and get a direct line of sight into the enemy spawn)

Look I'm sorry I didnt read your entire rant on Sandstorm but I just want to say I also did not enjoy sandstorm. Main reasons

>the pandering to esports and competitive instead of casual pvp and pve

I wish more servers would run one point to one point conquest. The whole 'every point is cappable if you have a radio connection' leads to lots of gankfaggotry rather than actually fun battles. Maybe make it so any points directly next to the current contested point is, but this shit reminds me of battlefield conquest where you just spend all the time running around putting out fires, not doing firefights.

I hate tiered armor systems. One of the reasons I stopped playing tarkov, but just had it happen in dayz on a modded server.

Also worth conflict servers only end after a team has held a certain number of victory points for a few minutes. And that is the only end condition. So some games can go on for 12 hours, I think the longest I saw was 26. You can do transport, logistics, join the masses in doing regular attacks, do spec ops larp shit and turn off your radio so you dont have to listen to your team talk about shit. You gain xp and rank up, and higher ranks let you spawn in better vehicles and get better equipment to choose from. Your rank resets with every match, it is not a persistent thing.

Idek if it’s even a thing, but if there exists a private server for v9 Squad (or even the patch before they added vehicles; god bless the dolphin dive), that would be the greatest throwback to tactical gameplay & fun with the boys you could have in 2025 without having to deal with faggots and/or zoomers.
