The issue isn’t fighting games but developing 4 fucking fighting games that cannibalize each other, with one of them being literally a crossover series that includes all the other three. That’s fucking madness and unsustainable. And you won’t develop expertise making fighting games because you can’t justify the investment for a small player base unlike AAA games. Not only this, but the boat has sailed away and the field has entirely changed with AI. Players got fed up of soulslikes and remakes, they’re no longer attractive. Yakuza pirates sold like shit and they’re RGG is making new ips. E33 was the biggest surprise last year and it was a turn-based game, something nobody expected. Most other games are selling on brand alone like Resident Evil. SNK finds itself alone at square one again. They must adapt and fast. But personally I think there’s no coming back from this at all.

I decided to play MOTW and judge for myself, and boy the things I discovered.. First of all there wasn’t much of a story to begin with, which explains why they allowed themselves too much freedom rewriting everything in COTW. MOTW from the beginning was setting up for a sequel that never happened, it’s an incomplete game, so unfortunately we never got the full realization of its plot. But from what I gathered the game was setting up for something very different than what we got in COTW. >our main heroes are “wolves” >the main conflict revolves around the curse of bloodlines and the powers they have >Kain and Grant represent Cain and Able >Grant’s victory badge is a sun emblem >when you fight Freeman he starts the round wearing cultist clothes >According to the fan Q&A for the game, they jokingly state that Freeman getting food is one of the many mysteries of Second Southtown. >they also stated that his pale skin is actually dyed >in his ending he gets shot and falls into the river, most likely a reference to Rasputin If you were smart you would’ve realized it by now. They’re all common tropes for vampire stories. Based on my own conjecture, there was supposed to be plan to revive Dracula and for him to seize Southtown, Kain’s job was making sure the city is best set to defend itself which explains his philosophy of survival of the fittest, he wasn’t really evil. Geese’s will was probably a prophecy of the vampire plan. COTW basically deleted all that and instead made it about Jin’s blood to connect the game with FF proper, and it explains why Freeman was the only excluded MOTW character, because he has no role in this new story.

After playing Wolves Destiny, I can say that I actually like it, and we have a real story now. Also it’s funny how it retcons nearly everything in the arcade. So many issues of this game could’ve been solved if they delayed it and thought things over. Gao a newcomer has become easily my favorite character, something I thought nu-snk will never be able to after Preecha and Vox. I just hope he gets a bigger role than being simply Krauser’s second in command. He has the potential to be a villain on his own. Also I think the comic book style is giving it a bit disservice. So many of those scenes would’ve looked better animated, especially nighttime south town.

I finally ranked up to bronze in Fatal Fury COTW. I don't know why, but I feel like I'm playing with a vice on my head when I play this game. I can play a game like Guilty Gear XX or Virtua Fighter 5 and understand enough to get to higher ranks, but SNK games always make me feel really stupid for some reason. Don't get me wrong, I love KoF and Samurai Shodown, but there's something unique about the pacing of cotw that makes me not understand it at all even while watching high level footage from the top players.Any idea what's going on there?
