You get a huge spike in difficulty for one boss fight in chapter 12 and then it becomes piss easy again

There's a difficulty setting. You should use it.
The real difficulty comes in the post game content.
I like it this way, personally. The story has some real momentum in some places, and overly hard bosses would kill it.

Infinite wealth should never have happened:
Kasuga should never have stepped down from the Ichiban Holdings job. If he wanted to hire ex yakuzas into honest employment, he should have hired them himself into his company rather than go work for the temp agency which is what allowed Infinite Wealth's fuckawful plot to set into motion.

These games don't try to challenge the player until new game+ and most people have had enough by then and drop the game. I wish they would give us a decent hard mode on first play through.

Real difficulty comes from Expert mode where you are forced to play around Ichiban base job and buffs/debuffs. Also expect some 20 minutes boss fights in there.

Learn the elemental system in the game. It's the game's secret killer feature.
