Is this the biggest noob trap of all time? And the worst advice the internet gives out? Especially in 2025 when gaming headsets have only got better and better, and more and more affordable.
But uh no you need to go go into the audio rabbit hole, spend hours doing consumer research, and send just as much if not more money for a way to hear audio that you probably won't even be able to tell apart from a random steelseries headset...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone post something like this. Headsets are kinda crappy next to the high end audio enthusiast stuff but I've never seen someone tell someone else to ditch the gamer headset for high end shit unless the person specifically asks for great quality sound in the first place.

There was a point in time where every gaming headset ever was both the cheapest garbage possible with multiple failure point design flaws baked in, while also being overpriced for what they were. The wiring is a lot less fragile now even with the Chinese brands, you pretty much get what you pay for with anything released within the last ten years.

it's the same old technology headphones getting recommended in these threads over and over again.I used to own the ATH-M50 because I followed this guide, but there's nothing special about them and the cushions deteriorate causing the plastic soundstage to damage my ear during long sessions.I've replaced them with $120 bluetooth headphones and never looked back. And no, I don't experience latency or audio lag.

Personally it's all about the comfort for me now
I can wear a bone conduction headset dawn to dusk but half an hour of a memory foam headset wears me out
It's more hygienic too, i had multiple headsets where the inside of the muffs would start turning sticky and black while my headset is just looking a bit greasy where it contacts the ears

I just buy the cheapest turtle beach and toss it every 2 to 3 years when it gets all oily from my ears or the wires start to fray.
