I like when party members in an RPG are different ages, have varying professions, and join the party at different parts of the story. Obtaining a new party member is exciting.
Not "oh they're all the same age, they're all soldiers, and they all join the party in the second chapter all at once". I don't count heroes like I don't count rare blades. The fact that they made the hero designs unique to stand out from their groups is jarring and as a result made unlocking them feel game-ified and an immersion breaking disconnect. Doesn't help that 3's MC has an annoying, punchable face.
