>trying to find the scariest movies of all time for Halloween >look up lists online >Jaws: When I saw the scary shark when I was 2 years old, back in 1948, the shark jumped out and gave me such a fright! >the exorcist: when the demon popped out and said "fuck shit!" my sensibilities were so rattled and unnerved! >AND NUMBER 1 SCARIEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! THE SHINING! These movies aren't bad, but holy shit they are not scary

>old movies New ones aren't scary, either. Movies aren't scary unless you're younger than 7 years old.

Horror movies aren't scary when you're past being a kid. At best they can be creepy or a little unsettling. The criticism of "x horror movie isn't scary" is kinda dumb

The Crucifix masturbation scene made me wince a little. But yeah, today that'll probably happen next season on Hazbin Hotel and be played for laughs.

We get more and more desensitised to horror with each new film. Watch Netflix series about Ed Gain, it has a subplot /alternative story line about directors making movies based on his crimes getting more and more gory just keep in mind his girlfriend is not real she was attention whore who dated him for like a week and tried to capitalize on the fame

I don't know it was pretty scary in the shining when he had sex with an ugly woman. Also they just talk to a black man without an inch of prejudice. It really eeked me out.

Jaws gave me an unjustified fear of sharks for life, so it is very scary to me in that senseI'd say The Omen is one of the creepiest

I never understood being afraid of a movie. Even as a child none of this shit ever really scared me aside from cheap ass jump scares. I just cannot suspend my disbelief to such a degree that I ever can feel in danger enough to be scared. Especially of stuff I know not to be real like big monsters or Freddy Kruger. Freddy was always more of a dark comedy character to me.

99% of movie criticism is just trying to justify nostalgia, that's why so many of the "top movies of all time" are black and white shit from the 1940s, because that's what movie critics in the 1990s grew up with, not because it's inherently better.

Jaws makes me nervous whenever i go to the beach so it kinda scary. Tusk makes me never dare to search "walrus" until the day i die because that fucking movie keeps getting recommended whenever i search the animal's name.

I had this dream last night about a monster made of ice cream sticks and there was just this nothingness inside him. He was called Mr Prix or Mr Pricks Sticks and I was sort of laughing at the concept at first. There was actually two and together they were called Dark Marx. At one point I was in a boat in the dark and I could see their ice cream stick faces in a dark doorway and it did start to scare me a bit. I get taunting them calling them to come but not actually wanting them to come near me and I was screaming something about justice, I might have been screaming in real life and I awoke in a cold sweat

The scariest thing that generation had ever experienced was kennedy being shot and modern generations watched snuff films on the internet when they were 10. The scariest thing to them is being in a relationship with a boy they don't like.

The only scary movies are old movies. But something like Jaws or The Shining is too recent to be called old.And the only scary movies are conceptual and suggestive, not visual. Something grotesque can invoke momentary disgust but disgust isn't horror to me, I adjust to forget it almost immediately, that's how the human brain works to tangible threats. Good horror is something that lingers in the brain. The Haunting 1963 is good, Whistle and I'll Come to You 1968 is good, The Woman in Black 1989 is good, Lake Mungo is good.

"We could never equal Buchenwald," said its final director, Charles Nonon. "Before the war, everyone felt that what was happening onstage was impossible. Now we know that these things, and worse, are possible in reality."
