>one bites him and the pack waits for it to set in before they start eating his face

the majesty, wonderment, awe-inspiring quality, whatever, that the dinosaurs have in the first half of the movie would be hard to pull off if their creator was characterized as a mercenary & profit-motivated piece of shit the way he is in the book, so the movie turns him into a sincere but misguided & delusional dreamer

The funny thing about the book is that most of the characters that die in the book survive the movie, and vice versa. Hammond, Dr Wu, and Ian Malcolm all die in the book but survive the movie, and Muldoon and Gennaro both survive in the book but die in the movie.

He's a fictional character, there is no truth about him the movie needs to adhere to. The book is just a different story in that respect.

The book and the film simply take the character in different directions, and in the movie it makes the destruction of his dream tragic. That's better than the catharsis of an evil Walt Disney getting what he deserves because he thought dinosaurs could be controlled like animatronics.

Yeah there's a lot of stuff in the films I don't like but that isn't really a big deal, for example the scale of what Jurassic Park is is much closer to what you see in Jurassic World.
But as far as shit that really matters, Hammond's character getting lost in the sauce is really antithetical to what Crichton was going for.
