Because it misjudged the market. G4 was a rebrand of TechTV/ZDnet. That network was all about the nerdy side of technology. The components of a computer, the programming. G4 was aimed at "normies" and instead was about gadgets. The latest crap you could buy from a big box store, not the latest distribution release from some dude on the internet. And that right there was G4s greatest enemy, the internet. It was suppose to be about keeping you in the know about all the latest crap to buy when the internet already did that. Entire network was trying to sell some hip techie culture. It made normies cringe and nerds had already long walked away

I could never figure out a use case. I was their target demo, old millennial who grew up in the golden age of console gaming, also cable was still a thing. All I remember thinking is "why the hell would I watch a tv show about video games when I could be playing video games?" Its not like EGM and such that were actually useful, strategy and previews, it was just, like, gossip. I could see it working better for this generation on that front but they don't watch traditional television.
