You can tell the show wanted to say that poverty and "the system" keeps the ghetto black kids down. But then again there are moments where they get sabotaged by their own choices or other ghetto blacks that can't really be explained by poverty. Poor 14 year olds in Myanmar aren't selling drugs or engaging in mortal combat over minor slights in school.
