It can be inferred that some foreign produce merchants recently visited Minas Tirith. From the juiciness, I would gather that this has been at least a few days ago, as tomatoes get more watery over time.

I couldn't pay attention for the rest of the series after seeing this scene. Cherry tomatoes weren't brought to Europe from the New World until AT LEAST the 17th century, as they were native to South America and not Europe. Given that this is a medieval european fantasy setting, this is a most grave and heinous oversight!
