When I arrived in LAX they didn't even have me talk to a Customs agent. US citizen line, face scan at a kiosk and you're good to go, "keep walking" from the guy supervising the face scanning kiosks. I was shocked when I popped out in the arrivals waiting area without even presenting my passport. Evidently I've been put on some Goodest Goy Traveler list.

Commercial interests will immediately use this technology to create anti competitive split pricing, and governments are already trying to extend it to domestic travellers.
The most likely outcome is that travel will become very, very expensive for the ordinary person. And since covid it's become very expensive already.
