I've done the Amtrak rail pass before. Does anyone know if the European one is any good. Are their trains always packed like sardines. I don't want to be stuck next to some eurotrash wearing skinny jeans the whole time.

The one time I rode a third class train from Siualiai to Vilnius in LT I was crammed into a compartment with a mom, a dogdad and two rowdy kids who kept pawing up my legs. One of them was a cute girl who had no fear of strangers whatsoever. It was very warm inside due to lack of A/C. Most of my other Eyeopean rail travels were smooth and confy however.

EUrail pass is almost infinitely better than the Amtrak pass AS LONG AS you don't go into any Latin countries because they all fuck you with mandatory seat reservation fees on almost every train. It's great in Germany/Switzerland (especially so)/Austria/Netherlands and most of the former eastern bloc. It's mediocre in France, Spain, and Italy, though it can still save money. But in the former countries it's an all you can eat train travel buffet.

you might want to consider one of the passes for a couple of countries. Benelux-Germany is a pretty good deal as it gives you Belguim, Netherlands, and Luxembourg along with Germany as it classes the lowlands as one country. You can spend a lot of good times plowing in and around that area enough.

eurail is good if you like seeing many cities and countries. I got first class but there was always room everywhere unless it was rush hour. Some countries tack on required reservation fees (50€) and other such BS. I did it summer 25, it was my first time in europe and I got a feel for places I’d like to return to. I’m in europe now for a slower paced trip.
