how the hell do you guys take longer than a 2 week trip? After 2 weeks it cost more than rent in most cities and thats not even accounting for transport and food cost. Airbnb looks cheaper for longer stays but then you need to deal with rules, insane host, and "cleaning fees".

Go off season Shop for deals Stay in a town over and drive Don't stay in high end if you don't need it 200/night isn't bad when you realize most fast food jobs start at fucking 15/hr these days If I am vaca'ing with friends have them chip in, gf had to chip in some portion tooAlso most Americans don't blow their entire 2 weeks in one go, what most smart people do is fluff a company/federal holiday or around similar events. When I only got 2 weeks vaca I would fluff it against a 3 day weekend where I would drop a day off on Thursday and a day off on Monday giving me 5 days off for the "price" of 2. Do that a few times through the year and it goes a long way. I'd just drive up to flagstaff or short hop flight on whatever cheapo ticket to LA for some event back then. Weekenders throughout the year >>>>> 2 weeks in FL just to say you did 2 weeks off. I get 4 weeks PTO now but never use it since I work remote and my boss just doesn't care as long as my project deadlines are hit.Canadians do mostly the same

One of the biggest causes of high hotel prices in America is the fact that every municipality sees lodging as a cash cow for tax revenue. Locals love raising taxes on lodging because it is one of the few forms of taxation which does not impact their budget. Often 17% or more taxes are levied on every night's room rate, and this doesn't even count all the other forms of taxation that hotel owners pay out of pocket, like business licenses, state income tax and property tax. You could say that easily 50% or more of a hotel's price goes directly into the government's pockets.

A bunk at Viajero Hostel in Miami Beach can be had for as low as $16 after tax when booked direct. Miami really is the best city for cheap hostelfagging in the USA. Only downside is, everybody despises low-value males there.

Even a mid place like PHX I can drive up to Northern parts of AZ or Show Low for snow, cool fall activities, etc, or simply drive down to rocky point for a cheap ass beach getaway without the Los Angeles BS. Flights to DFW for other shows are cheap as shit and I've never really had a problem using the DART to get around.
