>look for a cheap place to stay while visa times reset >insanely cheap from checking out online, lots of places 24/7, train up and down the country, and english spoken >why the fuck does no one talk about this place? I think I saw some people on trv talk about it once >book in KL Holy shit I did not think it possible for something to be less soulless than fucking Seoul. The air sucks, the food portions suck, the weather sucks, the "local transportation" is ass, everyone smells like sewage or curry, you run through things and then it's just "mall mall mall hey did you want to check out that small attraction at the mall?" from anyone you meet. Bars are just awful filled with obvious chinese scammers or old fucks from UK, sometimes passing business people. Try to look online for interesting things, you can blow out KL in like 2.5 weeks of going out, and everyone just says "never run out of things,,," and don't get me started at 5AM singing. Is there any saving grace for this place?

>Is there any saving grace for this place? I hated it and it was the worst place I've ever traveled to outside the US. (Loved Seoul btw)Saving graces for Malaysia are the private healthcare and the rock music. The cons are too many to name. It is broken on a societal level, what you experienced there was only the tip of the iceberg. I stayed there for 3 months and I don't recommend anyone stay there for more than 3 days under any circumstances

I took a job in Pittsburgh expecting to like it based on all the praise it gets. I fucking hated it.

I got memed into visiting Taiwan. It's like visiting a dirty 1980s version of China and Japan but with none of the charm. The food is somehow greasy while lacking any real flavor, which is a rare combination. If you've been anywhere else in Asia, there's not much reason to visit. Plus the people are autistic and act more rules-based than Japan or Singapore but they somehow have the dirtiest, smelliest, grimiest country in all of East Asia.I also visited Seoul but that was because I had a few days and figured why not. It was okay. Boring, but if I was a woman/a fag and liked kpop and fashion it probably would've been great.

Was it just Kuala Lumpur specifically that you guys hated, or did you not like Malaysia in general?

KL still tops the list of the most visited cities in the world, despite being an Asian Houston of decentralized megasprawl traffic. I liked rural Malaysia more. Excellent public transport, hotels for every budget, friendly trustworthy people, lovely rainforest greenery (outside of the palm plantation wastelands). East coast beaches were lovely and didn't feel hyper exploited for tourism like Thailand. Most Malaysia complainers are alcoholic whoremongers upset that they can't indulge in their favorite vices.

I was just looking through some travel guides, and for most major cities in the world, they list a bunch of different things you can see or do. It's mostly pedestrian slop that's overdone, but at least there are options. Then I looked at the Kuala Lumpur guide and it just says to visit the Petronas Towers. Wow, there's that little to do, huh?

it is very dull but you can find some decent indian food cafes and if your stomach is not weak you will be ok.

Malaysia is just family friendly Thailand. Its fine for what it is. Its also okay for the locals to be proud of their country and excited to tell you about it.If you want to be a miserable fuck try somewhere else, because drinking is expensive and the whores are awful.

Why is this board so obsessed about Malaysia. It’s a really cookie cutter SEA country and neither the best nor the worst place there.

Discussions like these really reveal how most people on /trv/ only go to the central areas of major cities, drink beer, get hookers, and do absolutely nothing else. Malaysia has the best part of Borneo and all the nature that comes with it. If you don't like seeing wild orangutans, crocodiles, and all the other cool shit jungles have to offer, then you're just a boring person.

Korea, specifically Seoul >typhoon/monsoon season want somewhere else to be >korea is cheap USD = WON pretty good, average beer, metro, etc. Housing at least all utilities included nice for a change >Itaewon is a complete dump, everyone is a boomer or reddit brained teacher / spouse of said teacher or jarhead >DUDE JUST GO TO ... yeah been to it most likely, there are only a few specific spots recommended >men are pol tier incels until a few drinks then complete r9k tier wimps >women are either skeptical to everything or wanting to GTFO of korea(seriously probably the easiest country to shack up if you are american and want to bring one back home, but I heard...stories of Korean women) >interesting thing is going to the mall, and going to /other mall/ >why aren't you having kids ads everywhere >cops show up for literally anything and everything >weather is somehow worse than SEA, air just does not move in Seoul maybe Busan or Jeju are better idk Worst is you need a local bank card or temp visa ID thing AND often a korean phone number to do anything outside of places flooded by tour bus groups. Oh and NAVER their google maps alternative is fucking garbage.

The batu caves are pretty cool. Smelly, dirty, and cunt ass macaques running around but worth a visit. You're right it's kinda boring otherwise. There is some great variety of food, easy to get private rides, easy to push back on any scam attempts and everyone has been kind to us.Still here if anyone has suggestions I think it's better to see nature areas outside of the city it's just damn hot and humid and mosquitoes really suck. I wanna swim with sea turtles then leave.

Vietnam. I had so many people telling me Vietnam was incredible and that I needed to go, yada yada yada. Literally my least favorite place I've been apart from Romania (SHITHOLE!). The food was terrible, the people sucked, the nightlife sucked, customs and immigration sucked. I think the only good thing about the whole country was the lounge in the Da Nang airport. Even the weed I smoked there was boof. I have zero interest in going to Vietnam ever again except MAYBE to do the Ha Giang loop but even then I don't think that could bring me back to that terrible place.

Sounds like KL. KL isn't much. It's just the administrative centre. You gotta get out of the city centre for what you're looking for. Go to Borneo, for instance. Can't get much further than that. Try Sibu, maybe. A few years ago i would have recommended Kuching/Kota Kinabalu, but modernization. Don't expect the world to sit still for tourism. It's unfair for us, who want to have modern stuff too.

This fucking place right here, was looking for a place I could extend visa's easily as I just wanted to not be in the USA for a while. What a fucking joke. >Cities are smog filled trash holes, yes I am in Makati downtown where I was told "it guder than Mall of Asia" >even going around to some of the fancy places shit feels like they just tried their best to shine up a 2 star place to a 2.5 star >bars are filled with the biggest fucking incels of all ages I've met >people go from barely functional IQ to maybe they know how to do a 100 piece puzzle in a day if smart >want to talk about anything not happening directly in Manila or Cebu? Good fucking luck as everyone will have some wild one liner about it or "huh? what's that" >beggars >bump into any other white guy, 95 out of 100 are incels which I thought was a meme but man nope real deal here. The 5/100 are often just english teachers or stuck here helping a remote site actually put things together. >free wifi is a complete mystery outside the airport for whatever reason inb4 uhhh unlimited costs a couple p lol, service can go from 100 to 0 if you stand in the wrong spot in some of these buildings >sirs at the end of every sentence and why it gets under my skin I have no clue >talking to women reminds me of those toddlers who bug you at the airport about things and are about as interesting a brain dead walmart american >want to buy something quality? too bad that costs 1.25-2x the cost of back in the USA outside chinesium >food is horrible, quality at supermarkets for meats is subpar it's like going to the cheapo off brand grocery store in the EBT/mexican side of town >apartments have horrible ventilation, electric costs are insane I though 13c KwH was bad in the USA >indoor voices between families? never heard of it m8 >beaches? don't you dare go in the water within a 100km radius of Manila Outside a 3 year visa + easy pay for super long visa I don't get the appeal

Ph and, yeah you will get a lot of girls on apps following you and talking to you. This is a trap they 100% of the time will just want you to glaze their country and how their dumb shit like "we have walkway that is airconditioned! OUTSIDE IT COLD!!! UNREAL" or their food is the best of all SEA and their country totally isn't becoming a Chinese vassal state(protip it is).

I've been trying really, really hard to look for things to do in KL, but everything I've seen so far is >see da building >shop at da malls >eat da food >really, really eat da food I love food and what I've seen of Malaysian food so far is actually pretty interesting, but I'm obviously not gonna be eating all day. Is this why their obesity rate is so high? Because there's nothing fun to do besides eat?
