for the average american tourist, appalachia offers a dramatically richer, deeper, and more rewarding experience, culturally, aesthetically, and spiritual, than anything in the rocky mountains or western united states.

This is absolutely untrue, and you know it. The Rockies are superior for visitors in every conceivable way. Only the White Mountains of New Hampshire even come close to the grandeur of the West. However, eastern mountain people are quirkier and more interesting to talk to then the generically prosperous and coolly polite white people of the Rocky mountains. The California Sierra foothills and PNW coast range towns have their share of oddball characters if that's what you want. Summer weather in Appalachia versus the Rockies? It's not even a competition. The West gigamogs with its warm sunshine and brisk dry air. Appalachia has much less habitat variety than the West. 90% is a uniform blanket of deciduous green. Here you can cross a dozen distinct habitats in a two mile walk.

I've traveled extensively all over the US. I wouldn't rank any area of Appalachia in my top 50 for places to visit. For hiking and outdoors, the western US is infinitely better.

Can the southern reaches of Appalachia be effectively explored by bus starting from Atlanta? Or are you stuck hiking the AT? Barring tropical storms, late summer and early autumn are the best time of year to be a vagabond in the eastern mountains.

The nature is pretty but there is cooler nature other places. It's good if you have a family farm or something there just to be left alone, but all the women are obese or drug addicts, and the "culture" that is left is just single mothers with their half black kids. Also like this

Jeezus, people aren't joking about Appalachia having literally no public transport. Not a single passenger bus stops in Chattanooga, one of the largest cities in southern Appalachia. Even the Greyhound Atlanta to Cleveland line blows right through the entire region without stopping once. Google Maps only shows Lyft as an option for visiting cities like Dalton, GA or Bryson City, NC.
