I want to travel but I don't have the money for it. Should I start small? Since I live in USA, should I stick here for now, and find hostels?

Go to a decently clean truck stop and start asking truckers for a ride to somewhere. Start with independent (non-corporation) truckers first. Ask them for a ride to somewhere 4 hours or so away (thats often as much as they'll drive before pee stops). tell them you don't have much money and you're trying to get somewhere for a last visit with your sick uncle. After a while, you get the ring of it and often truckers don't mind company for a while. I did this many years ago, can't imagine its much different now. Got to see alot of Canada and the western US. Now I have the money to travel but its a start for a broke dude.

It's not too expensive to travel the USA if you're fine with eating packaged grocery foods and sleeping outdoors most nights.
