Hi, I'm an Europoor in my mid 20s visiting family in DC in a few weeks. I'll see them for the weekend but everyone will be gone by Monday afternoon. I have a shit tonne of annual leave that I have to use and I've been spending it just watching TV shows the last few years. So I decided to not book a return ticket and explore.
My family said it's not a good idea since I have no car, no driving license and America is very autocentric. However, I have hope. Hope that a sliver of America exists outside of the Freeway. Are there any places I should visit? I can be here for max 2 weeks. I have maybe $5,000 to spend. I noticed you have trains that run overnight. I am happy to spend a few nights sleeping on the plane. I don't need much sleep.
Problem, I am a very good religious man. I am not interested in Miami nightlife, hookers, bars, clubs, concerts, hookup culture, etc. I want to have a fun trip. I want an American experience but like Phineas and Ferb so I want to try stuff like the tallest roller-coaster, hike in a national park, try hunting maybe, jetski, whatever is fun. I don't want to see buildings all day or have a tour guide. Washington DC will be enough. Maybe NYC or Boston because they have a lot to see but that's about it.
Either a North East trip or a trip that's all over North America. I also don't mind Mexico and Canada.
Help me plan this please. I have no friends.

DC to Boston has enough public transportation to get you anywhere, just enjoy nigger filled buses and trains. Flixbus/greyhoud for long haul buses, uber for around town.

Without a bunch of cash to show how you can pay for yourself in the USA or a way for onward travel they might not even let you board.Coming to the USA without a return ticket will get you shipped back, not even sure how you can fill out ESTA with no return ticket.>inb4 but what about muh migrants

Endless travel - Seattle! LA! Miami! Chicago! Hawaii! Boston! - sounds cool until you realize that 50+% of your trip will be spent stuck in a chair doing absolutely nothing besides feeling gross, getting a sore ass and watching an endless blur of scenery pass by that you cannot explore or experience.Whereas nobody is forcing you to stay inside a $90 motel room. You are free to get a transit daypass and explore as much of the city as you want, fresh smelling and unburdened by luggage. Rent a bike, ebike, or scooter to save your legs.And for godsakes, buy a nice return ticket from Chicago O'Hare if you want any chance of entering the USA. You can go anywhere by train from Chicago (apart from New England).

And in case OP thinks I'm being a NeverTravelled doomer, I'm not. In fact, I'm currently traveling the USA without a car. My thread here: [/trv/thread/2897589#p2897589]I've stayed two motel nights and two hostel nights in my first ten nights in the USA. "hurr durr I'll NEVER stay in a motel" is the retarded autism speaking. Travel is much more enjoyable when leisure time is maximized and transit time is limited. But some people do get addicted to riding Amtrak day after day. It's very confining, only being able to walk a narrow corridor between cars or stroll up and down the platform during a five minute halt. Buses are even worse, you can't walk around. In both cases your balls get so squashed from endless sitting, it feels awful. And if you ride an overnight train stepping off at 7 AM, guess when the next train is coming through? That's right, 7 AM. So what do you do for a night in town? You get a room, obviously.
