last year in China I moved between several hotels and they all had a 2PM check in, I almost always showed up an hour or two early and they've always given me the room on the spot with no issue

OP clearly hasn't traveled much. How early you can check in depends on the hotel, availability of rooms, and luck. I have been able to check into my room before noon plenty of times.

APA is a low-end, substandard chain, like the rest of the "business hotel" category of Toyoko, Sun Route, Super Hotel, etc. in Japan that local wagecucks are sent to when they have work travel. Even Marriott has adapted to the local market in Japan, with brands like Four Points (nee by Sheraton) Flex and City Express (yes the chain from Mexico that only earns 1/2 elite qualifying nights) brought in to compete in this category.When you stop being poor and travel like a normal person, or better yet as a guest with hotel status, I've never had a problem with early check-in or late check out (where available, availability permitting, outside specific markets where everything is upsold by convention like Las Vegas, etc.)Also, be aware that this business is subject to seasonal demand, high and lows based on availability, and operations will respond accordingly. If you're not a moron and recognize how the industry and specific business works in general, if you really want something then pay for it, etc., everything makes perfect sense and you're getting exactly what you paying for.

I always book flights that arrive at 9am in Tokyo, so I'm at the hotel at about 11am.They almost always let me have a room immediately. Although I dont stay in cheap business hotels

APA Hotels in Tokyo are notorious for being used by SEA prostitutes, especially trans. If you stay at APA in roppongi you will see trans escrots a lot and randoms gong in and out

as everyone has already mentioned, this is a poor people problem. i've checked in as early as 1030am and check out as late as 4.30pm.that being said, this has never happened in Japan. I think theyre really strict on timings, even if it's low season and rooms are available.

I stayed at a few Seibu Prince hotels and it felt very bougie. Shiomi was nice and quiet in Tokyo
