Quick Start Guide for First Timers:
Visa: Most countries get 90 days visa-free. Check if you need an eVisa or ARC if staying longer. Fill out your arrival card online before arriving for less stress.
Best Time: Oct–Dec for perfect weather (dry season). Avoid July–Sept typhoon season unless you like rain and chaos.
Getting Around: Taipei MRT is clean, cheap, and efficient as fuck. Youbike only needs an easy card and is essentially free unless you want to ride for hours.
High Speed Rail (HSR) for city hopping (Taipei Kaohsiung in ~1.5h).
Scooters are god outside Taipei. Get an international permit if you plan to ride.
Uber works but taxis are cheap. Avoid during rush hour or rain.
Food:
Night markets are mandatory. Shilin, Raohe, Ningxia, etc.
Must eats: Beef noodle soup, stinky tofu (acquired taste), oyster omelettes, bubble tea (original homeland), pineapple cake, mango shaved ice. All you can eat hotpot also.
7-11 and FamilyMart are better than in most countries, you can live off them if you want.
Top Spots:
Taipei: 101, Jiufen old street, Beitou hot springs, temples everywhere.
Taroko Gorge (east coast) — absolute kino nature.
Sun Moon Lake, Kenting (beaches), Alishan for mountains.
East coast for chill vibes and fewer tourists.
General Tips:
Taiwanese people are polite and helpful. Learn basic Mandarin or use Google Translate.
Tipping is not expected.

Here's what I say in every shitwan thread, DON'T FUCKING GO TO TAIWAN.It's the only place abroad I've been that I absolutely hated. It's a dump, it's ugly, the food is fucking awful, it's backwards and stuck 200 years in the past. The Taiwanese are all fucking thin skinned, two faced back stabbing cunts and it's far too hot and humid. There's nothing good about Taiwan. It died 20 years ago.

Taiwan's urban architecture tends to grimy dystopia, and the people are as aloof as Germans, but the coastal bluffs and green hills covered in primeval forest are so amazingly beautiful. Too bad I became a depressed anti-social alcoholic on my three week visit and never really explored the nature areas. The infrastructure is also very impressive, cutting through the extreme terrain with remarkably little environmental impact.

Be aware that Taiwanese traffic "rules" are vastly different from those in sane countries. You WILL die if you think you can treat traffic like you would at home. You have to treat every car around you as if they are planning to attack you at any moment, because they absolutely will do that. Then they'll bitch at you while you're dying and sue your estate over the damage to their car that they caused.

I know it will be hot, humid and monsoon, but i've never been and i have a few days to spare.i just want to do some sightseeing around Taipei, eat some food and maybe go bar hopping solo at night.if anyone has any more recs and tips, please provide. I don't get it? How the fuck is someone buying an apartment in Daan at 31?$80k a year is considered a high wage in Taiwan. You're looking at easily $1.5M USD to live in a shit old moldy building in Da'an.
All to save 20 minutes commute from Sanchong where you would have a nice new building with a gym for the same price.I've noticed most younger people who work tend to live further out, even the wealthier ones. There's way more old people in Taipei city who are sitting on massive housing gains.
