Here's what I say in every shitwan thread, DON'T FUCKING GO TO TAIWAN.It's the only place abroad I've been that I absolutely hated. It's a dump, it's ugly, the food is fucking awful, it's backwards and stuck 200 years in the past. The Taiwanese are all fucking thin skinned, two faced back stabbing cunts and it's far too hot and humid. There's nothing good about Taiwan. It died 20 years ago.

Taiwan's urban architecture tends to grimy dystopia, and the people are as aloof as Germans, but the coastal bluffs and green hills covered in primeval forest are so amazingly beautiful. Too bad I became a depressed anti-social alcoholic on my three week visit and never really explored the nature areas. The infrastructure is also very impressive, cutting through the extreme terrain with remarkably little environmental impact.

You're looking at easily $1.5M USD to live in a shit old moldy building in Da'an. All to save 20 minutes commute from Sanchong where you would have a nice new building with a gym for the same price.I've noticed most younger people who work tend to live further out, even the wealthier ones. There's way more old people in Taipei city who are sitting on massive housing gains.

Calling an AYCE buffet a tourist trap is retarded. 99% of customers are locals. Those buffets fucking rock as well. ~1000 to eat endless plates of sashimi and grilled meats is awesome. Been to a few with unlimited beer as well. You always get a great value out from a few hours there. I try and go with my GF a few times a year as a special treat.

I've traveled to Taiwan three times, but all pretty short (11, 7, and 9 nights). I've stayed in Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan - day tripped to some other things nearby. Haven't yet been to the east coast or the interior of the island. I'm starting to do some long term planning for next summer and I wanted to do a long stay (~30 days). My main goal is to cycle the west coast from Taipei to Kaohsiung. That's not going to take the entire 30 days, I also want to see the east coast. I speak intermediate Mandarin (but I learned simplified characters, so my reading/writing in Taiwan is poor). I have a few questions for the experienced Taiwan travelers/immigrants, 1. I've biked parts of Taiwan exclusively using Youbike. They're okay for short travel; I think the farthest I've gone on one is 30 miles. They're not suited for carrying stuff with me. I've heard Giant has bicycle rentals, how are they? Or is there an alternative? 2. The amount of stuff I need for 30 days is more than what I can carry on a bicycle. In my mind, the actual bicycling would only take up around 7 days. (approximately 275 miles from 台北 to 高雄, that's around 40 miles per day on average) I would like to hop a little bit, doing 2-3 days of cycling in a row before staying in a city for a few nights. What's the best way to handle luggage in Taiwan? I can carry a couple of days of supplied in the bike cargo bags. Are there luggage delivery+storage services, or do I say fuck it and get a place in advance before backtracking to rent a bicycle and make my way there? 3. That part of the trip would be the first 15 days or so. Afterwards, I would take a train and visit the interior/east coast. The main spots I've heard about are Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, and Kenting. I definitely want to visit Yilan, but which of the remaining three are worth the visit? Are there any other east coasts towns I'm missing? 4. Is Sun Moon lake a tourist nightmare in late May?

Hualien was fairly dull. I booked 7 nights and went back to Taipei after 5. I was bored after 2 night and would just sit around in cafes, go for bike rides, to the gym, and walk near the mountains (Lots of creepy rednecks there. The village retard wanted to shake my hand but he was extremely dirty and I kept walking. The people there looked homeless and gross)I met a girl at a kino bar that sat maybe 8 people. It was in a residential neighbourhood and wasn't on google maps.what else... met a dude from Japan who swam in those riverbed pools at the base of the mountains. He drove me out of the homeless camp in his vintage Volvothe airbase was neat to watch from atop the mountain with binoculars, I guess.No nice beaches there. Horrible food options. Lots of grease. Restaurants don't open until 11am.Didn't smell too bad, compared to gaoxiong or taizhong (fuck wade giles what a horrible way to spell)The natives did not find it cool that I didn't love their smelly island. I didn't tell them, but they could sense it wasn't a green pasture in my eyes.

The only time I have witnessed 'violence' in Taiwan was a spat outside a karaoke 酒店 in Taichung at 9am. And even then it was such a low level, low intensity matter than it couldn't be called a fight. It was slightly amusing and helped distract from the 4 hour wait I faced for my hotel's check-in time.

How good/bad is in Taipei around November?Looking for a place to spend 30 days that isn't Korea between countries and my options that I am looking at are Philippines or Taiwan.
