September can be beautiful with all the autumn leaves but the weather starts to be chilly. In Helsinki >ateneum for art >seurasaari for outdoor museum of traditional living >sompasauna is a free public sauna >kallio for beers and partys >kotkot for best chicken burgers I have every eaten Also for other restaurants, there is usually lunch menu from 11 to 14/15 which is noticeably cheaper than regular menu.September is still nice camping season and can recommend going to Saimaa region or Turku archipelago for camping. Maybe rent a cabin in the woods in either of those for few days to find peace of mind. Very traditional way of relaxing here. Visiting Lapland is nice, but it's far away, and desu rather go to Swedish Lapland around Kiruna for nicer views but similar distance away. Turku is the old capital of Finland and has rich history as well. Porvoo has nice old town just 40 minute drive from Helsinki. Tallinn in Estonia is 2 hour ferry ride away and easy to waste a day or two in there as well. Maybe take a overnight ferry cruise and usually there is people getting wasted on the boat on weekends. Always a good time.People can be cold, but usually more open for a chat when drinking or for some weird reason, in sauna. Foodwise taste salmon soup, karelian pies, reindeer or moose with mashed potatoes and for sweets taste salmiakki and korvapuusti.

I stayed in Helsinki in October 10 years ago. I stayed in an AirBnB with my gf. The restaurants didn't blow me away but it was a nice city. The loud gypsies yelling were jarring, I imagine that it's only more vibrant now. Visited the pier, museum or two, some fortress island by ferry.

Some random recommendations, I won't cover all the most obvious tourist sights in Helsinki. Also in Nuuksio, the national park near Helsinki a lot of the campfire spots are taken over by immigrant families which can be frustrating.Helsinki:-Sompasauna: As mentioned before a free outdoor sauna near the sea with nice views. Volunteer run, frequented by locals and tourists alike, mixed saunas and you can go in swimwear. There's also commercial saunas that double as ice swimming spots in the winter, they're fancier but can be quite expensive.-Viikki/Vanhakaupunki: Viikki is a nature reserve rich with birds about half an hour bus ride from the central railway station. There's a lot to see in the region, for example a museum of technology and a dam with a fish ladder, an arboretum, Kuusiluoto: an island accessible by wooden planks through wetlands (also has sheep grazing freely in the summer months).-Kruunuvuorensilta: the longest bridge in Finland, just finished and made just for trams and pedestrians. You can walk along it to Laajasalo island and take a ferry back to the center for the price of a public transport ticket. The bridge also makes a stop on Korkeasaari, a zoo island.-Sugoi: A japanese style gaming arcade about half an hour from the city center. Has a large and changing lineup of games from retro fighting games to driving games, rhythm games and shmups. Hobbyist-run place, all games are free to play and well kept, you just pay for entry. Check the opening times beforehand. Imho better than most arcades in Japan in the current year.-Taivaskallio: A hill with views of the city and an old anti aircraft battery from WW2. Also has a pond with newts and toads at the top.-Putte's: Imho the best pizza in Helsinki. A bit hipstery, in the evenings turns into more of a bar with loud music. Has a lunch deal. Also hosts live music sometimes in the basement.

just walk downtown and do some shopping, from souithern shore of Kaivopuisto to Tuomiokirkko to Kämp shopping mall etc.Suomenlinna is the old heritage spot island with some tunnels and turrets and old sub marine etc.Linnanmäki is a good amusement park on top fhe hill in downtown with great views and rollercoastersYou can visit tampere or Turku too, midfinland is whjere the fresh water lake district starts
