Any of you guys been to the really bad African countries? Like Sudan, DRC, Somalia, Chad, CAR, etc? How bad is it actually? Could a white guy realistically visit there without severe risk?

Insane risk, some of these are even fucking active warzones.You will needed to be escorted by someone armed and you will need a fixer to navigate all the corruption. Just go to the countries with established safe tourism. The armed guards will be discretely out of view, you'll have some semblance of freedom and you're far less likely to catch beaver fever on the first day. You're not going to be seeing the "real africa" being escorted everywhere by armed guards anyway.

Never been, but afaik:
