I’ve met several people irl from that country, and it seems pretty chill and welcoming. Recently, they’ve waived visa requirements for us (Colombia). From what I’ve researched, the cost of living is similar to ours and as long as I avoid talking about the gov, be respectful and learn basic Russian, a three-month trip sounds like it could be nice. btw I WFH and have decent savings, so money shouldn’t be an issue—especially if I can find someone willing to rent me an apartment. Any tips? Also what is the catch?

The catch is that it's boring as fuck and everyone is miserable. Especially if you come from a fun, friendly culture like Latin America, you'll quickly want to kill yourself

It's cheap but expensive to get there.
You can't cross the land border as a foreigner, the visa free is only if you arrive on a plane.
