One, it depends on the time of year when you can go. Chile you definitely want to go in summer, Switzerland it depends on what you wanna do. I've been to both and I prefer Chile because it's far emptier. Switzerland's infrastructure is amazing of course but you really do pay for it, and that comes with increased regulation and surveillance. In the lake district or Aysen, you can camp pretty much anywhere, and hitchhiking is super easy, so getting around is slower than Switz but it's still enjoyable. You didn't mention your budget but you can have way more fun in Chile for way less than in Switzerland, and unlike the other anon said, it's way cheaper.
I hitched the carretera austral last year and barely spent $20-25 a day - with no transport costs, getting a campsite, eating a meal out every other day and drinking a lot (chileans like to party). it was a great time and the people are really sweet, not much english though.anyway, go to switzerland if you want convenience and wanna pay for it, and go to patagonia if you wanna have a good adventure. but do try to stay longer down there because it's far from everything and not cheap to get to, and like i said, getting around takes time.
