I'll start with my trip to Southern Germany last summer.
Munich
>Flew into Munich, took transit to a youth hostel which would be my main base camp
>Walk around, explore randomly
>Day trip to Vienna. Explore and hike randomly, take cable car up to super tall mountain, hike there
>Group tour to the Eagle's nest
>Free tour of downtown Munich from the hostel
Heidelberg
>Take train to Heidelberg, stay at another youth hostel
>Explore castle, walk around and explore and whatnot
>10 mile hike up the big hill, following the Neckar river to Neckarsteinach. Have lunch while looking at the river, then take a boat back to Heidelberg.
>Went to Heidelberg zoo
>Before taking the train back to Munich, get currywurst and ice cream, traverse the bridge
Munich again
>Go back to original youth hostel, cook in the kitchen
>Ride bike in the rain and explore randomly, go to a river to check it out
>Take transit to ride an alpine coaster
>Go to olympic park, explore and swim in the pool
Why this trip was so great:
>Cheap ($2000 something, flights included for ~2 weeks)
>I was alone and could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted
>Hot women at the hostels just came up and talked to me. This Polish girl in particular totally wanted it but I had/have a gf
>People were very friendly. I'd have nice chats with old folks on the train or at the bus stop. Young dudes my age next to me on the train were happy to talk as well. People smiled while I chatted with old folks on the train because they thought it was sweet
>First time traveling solo, and first time going to Europe as an adult
>I'm about half ethnically German, so Germany was always extremely cool and exotic to me (a burger)
Best day was probably at Heidelberg, doing the 10 mile hike and taking the boat back. Amazing day
