I have been to 45 US states and these are my thoughts. In december, almost the entire United states (approx 80%) is cold. There are a few parts which are less cold, which are:
* Southern California (Los Angeles/San diego area), approx 20C. Warmer near the coast. 7/10
* Mojave Desert (Death Valley, Las Vegas). Good time of year to visit, approx 15-20C during the day, but quite cold at night (5-10C). 6/10.
* Arizona/New Mexico (Phoenix, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Taos). More desert like, similar weather to the Mojave Desert but a little colder due to higher elevation. Great if you're used to cold, it's an okay spot to visit. 5/10.
* Hawaii (Best time of year to visit and busiest time). Warm, tropical, people from all over the states come here for winter vacation to avoid the cold. 10/10.
* Gulf of mexico (Texas coast, New Orleans, Biloxi, Destin Florida, Seaside florida + Florida panhandle). A great time of year to visit. Many wealthy people from the northern states spend the winter down here in the the florida panhandle, it's a very wealthy and relaxing part of the united states. People are very kind here, but it's very White. 9/10.
* All of florida. The weather is perfect. 25C during the day, 20C at night. I suggest St Augustine (oldest city in the USA), Orlando (disney and universal theme parks). Miami is at its busiest, excellent time of year to visit. 9/10.In terms of enjoyableness, I'd recommend Hawaii for you, since you enjoy nature. There is abundant nature there. But if you want the real american experience, take a road trip from Louisiana to florida (New Orleans, Biloxi, Destin, Seaside, St Augustine, Orlando, Evergaldes, Miami, Key West). Each region has its own distinct version of american culture, from French Creole, to wealthy northerns in the panhandle, to old colonial towns (St Augustine), to the cuban/spanish side of america (Southern Florida).
