As part of this educational module I have the option to do a Patagonia trip from Buenos Aires (flight NOT included) and something doesn't feel right.
They want $2295 USD for a (southern-hemisphere) summer camping trip that starts in san martin de los Andes, then to Auquinco, rincon de los pinos, portezuelo, Achen niyeu volcano & Laguna Vierde. 5 nights but we would mostly be sleeping in tents
My reservations:

I did an entire 2 week Japan trip recently for basically 2295 USD including some premium experiences, paying for shinkansen, etc. they want this for 4 nights camping in a tent and 1 night in a budget hotel. Some of the justification is ridiculous overhead -> support vehicle, horse-drawn luggage transport, on-trip doctor. To this 2295 USD also have to add on flight from Buenos Aires to San Martin.

Would appreciate some insight from Argentinian anons or anyone who's visited on both price and location, sooner rather than later as I need to make a decision soon

Doesn't seem expensive to me. THat's what you should expect to pay. The only question is whether you want to go to those locations specifically. If not, find another tour package. All sites have their own pluses, but southern patagonia is obviously going to be cold the further you go down.

what is going on in this thread? Why would you pay $2300 for random itinerary when you can literally do the O trek for less than that?what i would do: fly to El Calafate, see the glacier, one day. done. bus to El Chalten, do the best day hikes while staying somewhere in town. then back to el chalten. either fly back to buenos aires from there or fly somewhere else.

Patagonia is overrated anyways, come to Jujuy instead.

Argie here living abroad. That is a pretty expensive package, but to be fair, Argentina is fucked and it's gotten super expensive lately. You're not getting fucked personally, it's just that anybody going to Patagonia is getting fucked in general. I've done week-long ski trips Austria, lodging, ski pass, all included, for much less than that fucking price.

it's basically just a trip to Neuquén. you could probably arrange it yourself, fly in and just rent a car and there's probably a local outfitter who will either rent you gear or go with you as a guide. argentina is more expensive these days but that's nearly $500/day for a guided camping trip. i would pay that much only if we're talking 4-star accomodations in san martin de los Andes

I don't know why you get nervous and adopt a passively defensive attitude towards Chile, that is, you don't mention the world-famous Patagonia; you implicitly exclude Chileans from the opinions, and you get upset because an anon user liked Chilean Patagonia more than Argentine Patagonia... we won't say that you're an Argentine bait... But... open your heart, don't resist. Not only do we have many lakes (top images), but we also have beautiful green Mediterranean and temperate ocean coasts that are truly wild and pristine (bottom images). The experience and enjoyment are guaranteed.Think of us as Italy, Norway, Greece or Japan. You'll never have to travel long, boring distances between the coast and the mountains, only to be disappointed later...ah, the Patagonian inland valleys (between the mountains and the ocean coast) are objectively beautiful.
