Western NYer here, never been to the West Coast. I've got some vacation time to use this year so I'd like to check it out. What are your best recommendations for interesting places to visit? I'm less into the outdoors and more into food, architecture, art, and museums.

Los Angeles is the obvious choice. Grand central market. Lots of museums
The Peterson is cool if you pay extra for the Vault and you like cars. But why come to the west coast if you don't like the outdoors? That's literally the biggest reason to come over. Maybe go to San Francisco and take a decent drive north and go through the redwood forests. Visit bigfoot/hippe country. San Diego and Orange County have nice beaches.

The region is a cultural backwater and Portland is the only beacon of civilization in the wasteland. If you're into beer, there are a lot of great microbreweries in the area.

I live in boston. I like to ride motorcycles and smoke weed and listen to the guitar. california seems like a good place to visit. It seems fucking expensive there though.

So you're going to come to the most history-less region of one of the youngest countries on Earth. I'll admit we have good food here (like anywhere in the US) but imo the nature is the only reason to come here, unless Hollywood is your thing. I'd say the only interesting architecture on the west coast imo is San Francisco, which looks really nice but I haven't been in years so I don't know how the homeless situation is and I hear car break ins are frequent.

it's not on the coast but vegas is the best city in the west, cheap entertainment, party atmosphere. san francisco is the best city for culture, architecture, food. don't bother with portland or seattle. san diego has the best beaches and amazing summer weather. monterey bay and wine country are lesser-known gems with beautiful nature and scenery. i would recommend amusement parks, didneyland or magic mountain in socal, great america or six flags in norcal. there's good food, fresh air, unique climate, kind people. if you love nature, lake tahoe or yosemite are impressive. based on what you stated though, you'd do best with sf, la, sd, the rest of the state is either quaint foodie stuff or nature stuff. once more don't bother with oregon or washington. the columbia gorge is nice though.

Portlands Food scene is pretty spectacular. The waterfalls near closer to the Portland are worth a half days activities and can be pretty much be done by car.Outside of that
