Is this a valid opinion? They're stupid expensive and I don't want to ever open and play with it because I spent so much money on the item, I had to go through the trouble of tracking it down and in most cases I wait months or years for it to surface online. It's the same thing with limited run preorders that A: is only available on the manufactirers website or B: is a charity fund, yes thats a thing. In my case it's model locomotives and rollingstock that I refuse to open and run on my layout but the same applies for any kind of toy. Do you agree or disagree?

Only thing you're chasing with rare figures is hype and FOMO. Rare toys are just as good as common shelfwarmers, which means they're also just as bad. It's most about the tastes you have and less about how much you spent. Something like, I don't like BBTS Crocker, but i love Truforce X in 1st armor deco

I open everything. I don't give a fuck. If I can't enjoy it then there's no reason to buy it. If it's something rare and vintage, then you're probably better off buying stuff that's already opened and loose.

Just stop at this point and do what I do. But toys in sale clearances and discount stores. Pile them in your backlog closet. By the time you realize it, that 5 dollar figure is now rare and cost a couple hundred in the after market. Stress free and cheap rare toy collecting.

Many of the most fun toys I have are rare and expensive so yes, you're coping.The key is that some of the other most fun toys I have were cheap and plentiful, like the absolutely fucking kino lanard alien sets from a few years back.I also feel like I have a good eye for actual decent toys and it's usually easy to tell what will be worth a lot of money years down the line. Those old mezco comic Hellboy figures for example. Never read Hellboy, didn't care about it, hasn't even seen the movies at the time.They were obviously badass, super cool looking toys. They came and went and a couple years later everything was hundreds of dollars and people cry "I wish I knew, I wish I bought them back then" bla bla. Tale as old as time.It's a lot harder these days because most toys are garbage now, but a good recent example is Jurassic park hammond collection dinos. I was all in on this line from the start because it was the first mass market retail line ever to do a large amount of super articulated dinosaurs. It was a fucking no brainer, theyre awesome, everyone loves dinosaur toys and we're literally getting the first of a bunch of species to be able to move more than just their mouth and their arms up and down. "Hm yeah I guess I'll skip it and wait 3 years until there's 20 of them out and all the ones from the first 2 years are $250 each, then I'll try to buy them" People are retarded, these weren't even rare.

When I get a rare/expensive grail, I immediately get it out of its box and start enjoying it. However I’ve also never bought something rare sealed mint in box so I simply don’t even consider the issue of recouping my money as the value will be the same as I paid if I want to sell it later.

Buy what you want, play with it, if you need money then find a better career, counting on profiting on your collection is poorfag behavior that keeps you poor. I hope mormons steal all your rare toys and leave you only with the cheap opened ones you played with.
