Not an /awg/ player, but I must say that switching to skirmishes is how I finally managed to actually get a bunch of nerdy friends into wargaming and thank to that I know play much more often and have much more fun and motivation for the hobby. Actually committing to large scale stuff like 40k still scares them even though they like the setting, but they enjoy small scale games a lot

The typical /awg/ poster sadly is a very bitter and conflicted person. They rightfully despise the 40k crowd, but at the same time, they need members of that crowd to join their own gaming groups, because there is no other noteworthy community interested in wargaming, and most /awg/ companies do suck at marketing, and downright aim their product at GW Players, but not at casuals from outside the hobby sphere.

I just dont see the appeal of games that require hundreds of dollars of models, rulebooks, only to discover no one in your area gives a shit; its all risk and little reward. With a game like D&D, all you need is a laptop, a pirated rulebook (or if youre an ethicsfag, you can probably jus buy a digital copy) and some friends or local group. Maybe a grid-map and some tokens?

Basically when the beer truck parks up, you roll twice; once to determine how "inspiring" the presence of the beer truck is; it makes you roll between one and three for "inspiration" effects, ranging from free ungobsmack to increased movement to a +1 skill buff, but also makes you roll on this here chart;As you can see, your Quar bay become distracted by beer and playing grabass, or else go apeshit and break the action economy. Whereas I; a surly Chud have no such issue, BECAUSE I have placed attaining friendship as my first goal. I make friends with all sorts of people. I've played Frostgrave with my fucking drug dealer for christ sake. And Battletech with the neighborhood wigger. And Necromunda with a sad sad alkie. And Quar with the schizophrenic kid down the street which always turns into a fight. I ran Runequest for my upstairs neighbor. I didn't befriend any of these people based on the premise of playing games alone; I befriended them because they were proximal, and usually tolerable company, and we often found ourselves talking in any case. Out of the wider group of people I befriended, maybe half of them proved open to playing /tg/ at some point, and out of those, about half again were up for doing it regularly. Collect friends, friends are good for all sorts of things. If you collect enough friends, eventually some of them will be open to trying your hobbies, because you are their friend.If you want to build a house you have to lay a foundation. If you want to engage in long-form deeply involved deeply social passtimes, you gotta cultivate companionship AND shared interests.Why you think all the old lgs horror stories happened? Built 1 sprue, this was my first quar kit. My standards are Victrix kits so my complaint are, it's a bit annoying placing the arms and weapon. Some of the arms just doesn't align to the shoulders and that annoys me. The left hand also doesn't holds the rifle well. For example you would think that R3 and L3 would be a pair but no. It doesn't fit. Also these guys are fucking tiny lol
