I always play Dwarves as having thick Appalachian accents. They just seem more like Appalachian people than proper Scots (although Appalachians have Scottish ancestry). Appalachian people are tough as nails, drink hard, work hard, work in mines, have good crafting skills, etc.

Dwarves require alcohol to live in the same way other races require water. They don't get drunk off of it.
On the other hand, water is mildly poisonous and does have an intoxicating effect on dwarves.
Everclear for them is the equivalent of a light beer for us, and vice versa.
Dwarven teetotalers exist, and they only drink pure ethanol.
