The same way you'd deal with a city-themed one? You don't need to detail each and every person.

For starters, you only have to come up with like a dozen people, everyone else in school can just be background noise, that is the normal school experience for the average students, they have a few friends, someone they know is cool from that one science project they did together for the fair, and a few antagonists/enemies. You can fit all the info you need in a post-it, specially considering school cliques are stereotyped to hell and back, all you have to do is:>Avery, Head Cheerleader, Bully
Just reading those three words, you know she's gonna show up, insult people, act like royalty, flanked by some of her cheer flunkies, and probably say "ugh" a lot. Everyone expects that.
Even the usual plot twists where she's really in love with the alternate tattoo guy/pocket square nerd instead of the quaterback is a cliche, as a mater of fact it's such a cliche, The Breakfast Club did it before you were probably semen in your dad's balls.Just do a couple more of those, and let the cliches carry you.
>Phil, Nerd, Victim
>Mike, Quaterback, Cool guy actually
>Petunia, Goth, Weirds people out.
>Mary, Theatre kid, secretly gay, everyone knowsEtc. etc.
