How come Boogeyman don't feature prominently in TTRPGs? They are classic monster folklore creatures. Can you think of any ways Boogeyman are relevant to /tg/?

Bugbear is actually an archaic term related to Boogeyman.It's also why Bugbears are unusually stealthy and skilled at sneaking into people's closets for some reason.

Arduin has boogeymen as a very powerful undead monster. Sometimes to make a memorable monster that doesn't just seem like a randomly generated creature, you have to take an existing monster and subvert the expectations created by the name, although the more popular the monster you subvert, the more likely it is that you will either fail to make something unique or do something which has been done before, boogeymen are relatively rare in RPGs as the OP states.

There is the Bagman in 5e. If you got a cool GM that implements it into the game it definitely gives a sense of dread and fear.

There is a pf1e boogeyman and a 3.5 one. Adnd to pf have the Babau demon. Bugbear is ubiquitous. There is no reason to care about 4e and 5e.

Bugbear, Boggle and Meenlock are all boogeymen of some variety. I use meenlocks extensively. Can't really say when was the last time I've seen a bugbear or a boggle, though.
