Gun arms are cool but having little sub arms on them is the best shit ever.

What's the best game for those sweet Japanese retro-futurism vibes?

IMO the most grounded mech settings are actually those that have mass produced mechs that are cheap and basically have replaced infantry. Cause, think about it, what are the disadvantages of a mech?
>They’re thinly armored compared to conventional vehicles
>They’re relatively low in armaments relative to their tonnage
>They need more maintenance than other conventional vehiclesBut what are the advantages?
>Can swap out weapons easily like an infantryman
>Inherently intuitive since they’re basically just a bigger human body, so quicker to train pilots for it than it is to train conventional vehicle crews
>Can perform the usual “light infantry” duties, like patrolling streets and rugged terrain, and policing and occupying areasA mech, in other words, makes the most sense in the context of a society whose industrial capacity has grown so massively that they are able to treat mechs as one would treat infantry, with the common grunt rifleman being given a mech to pilot and mechs being able to be used by mass conscript forces. What they lack in durability and firepower they make up for in versatility and sheer numbers. In fact, you could even go a step farther, and have the crews of vehicles also be in mechs, similar to how Space Marine crewmen of vehicles wear their power armor inside the vehicle. After all, its additional protection for the crew, and it scales up the vehicle to a larger size so it can handle more mechs. After all, if mechs are infantry, why can’t they also be crewmen?

I'll always be a sucker for them, even really the machine-gun arm focused Wanzers from FM4.Although eventually I warmed up more to the humanoid arm concept.

Gun arms are cool until you fall down & need them to help you stand up, whereupon the barrels get misaligned & clogged up with dirt.

Fantasy mecha fans where are you? I'm patiently waiting for Wares Blade to release, meanwhile I'm working on a wargame ruleset using OPR and Mythras

Look cool but less useful than manipulators
VF1 >> Destroid
Guncannon >> Guntank

It depends on the weapon and how well it looks thought out in terms of ammo placement and other such minute details.Within the realm of the aesthetics I go for which follows realism as long as verisermillitude and rule of cool are maintained, justifying grabby hands for mechs doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

Since when did the mammoth get a melee weapon? I thought that was more a gear-strider thing, not that I'm complaining.
It reminds me of an old dreadnought kitbash I did

MechaStellar VER11 Released
https://mechastellar.com/game-downloads/
Here are the biggest changes
>Core mechanic is dice only
Previously it was ATK Dice + Bonus Hits VS DEF Dice + Bonus DEF
Now it's a flat dice pool and is much faster
Pilot skills were updated to match, Flash instead of a flat bonus lets you roll DEF again. A lot higher variability but overall has been a lot more fun.
>Weapon Triggers
Each weapon has a battlefield role it excels at. Barrage weapons have lots of dakka, Siege is anti-cover, Crit is the best way to punch through defenses
>Expanded Save system
All weapons can now cause saving throws, not just beam weapons. Failed saves deal damage and some do bonus effects
>Armor Save
High damage, represents beams punching through the armor
>Mobility & Stun Saves
Bonus Suppression effect lowering move / combat actions when target is <50% HP.
>Break Saves
Break shields, then deal bonus damage to targets without a shield
>Push / Pull Saves
Same as before, updated to match Terrain destruction system.>Simplified Mech construction design math
Almost all units are in increments of 50pts now, making army building much easier and will make mech creation rules easier for a future update

I actually made a little note on my phone comparing the two (hands vs built in) and came to the conclusion that hands are just that good.
Doesn't mean I don't like gun arms, thougheverbeit.

I usually prefer gun arms or guns mounted to the frame or shoulder, with little t rex manipulator arms. Pic not related.
