Book of exalted deeds was worse than book of vile darkness. It added a lot of bullshit spells and poorly thought out mechanics like vow of poverty. I banned both books at my table back in the day.

You know, Hickman IS genius but he destroyed the "old school" D&D. His old modules like I6 Ravenloft or B7 Rahasia are "storyshitting" modules but they are really, really good at what they do and at the time were very innovative.
Also I like Dragonlance even if it is actually very idiotic setting. Good art direction helps.

The last contact him and Weis had with WoTC was when they were suing their ass during 2020-21 over the Dragonlance book contract failure.

I remember buying the BoVD exited to see cool shit because it was in a sealed slip cover back in the day, only to open it and find things only SLIGHTLY worse than a normal D&D book, with rules even more laughably shit than normal. The only thing passable was the poison table and some of the spells.What gives? Is a magic rod made of wiggly tongues really that horrible to depict? That one Cenobite god over in Pathfinder is more wretched than anything depicted in olde BoVD
