Heya Grog, I was wondering if any of you could help me track down something from the old days of White Dwarf. It's an Imperial fortress- a giant fuck-off cannon, built into a mountainside. I only saw the image once, and that was on my now-bricked phone. I think it might've been a starship macrocannon, or something? I distinctly recall the cutaway of the fortress had actual shell storage in there.Fairly certain James dug up the concept again while he was rummaging for ideas on what that recent Kill Team 'season' was going to be about, and then decided he was going to make the giant cannon Even Bigger, because that's what 40k does.

I bought a couple of 3D printed retro Land Raiders and that gave me the idea of playing Rogue Trader. I've already played it a few times over the years, but I'd like to get more into it. I own the main rulebook, the Compendium and the Battle Manual (I bought them years ago).Any anons here play RT in 2025? What's your view on the supplementary material, do you think it adds to the game? The way I see, there are like three versions of the game, right?>Vanilla: Main book + Book of the Astronomican

Is this a fair assessment?The basic vanilla system is not very difficult to run, but it gets unwieldy fast once you start adding White Dwarf stuff. Army lists, vehicle and battle manuals, yay or nay? I don't own beakies, but I've got enough middlehammer Eldar and Space Marines to play pretty big games using the White Dwarf army lists, the two Land Raiders alone are like 1500 points according to the Compendium.So basically, what's the best way to enjoy the game nowadays?(Reposting from )

How acceptable or whatever are modern minis? I have tons of scans of rogue trader through 3rd edition 40k models but one of the rules at my LGS is you can’t have a fully 3d printed army so I was thinking of using modern plastics for some personalities and dreadnoughts, like using Kharn the Betrayer or the generic lord on juggernaut for the slaves to darkness world eater army list? I know some models are too big for the old 25mm bases of old and I would rather just use the scans but I don’t want to get banned from my LGS or whatever. I thought of using the new Castellan Crowe as a Lt Commander for Grey Knights but even taking him off his tactical rock i’d have to give him a smaller one and I’m not sure his stance could accommodate a 25mm but at this point I’m rambling. Do I deserve to be shot to death for doing this? Or like hanged by the gallows?

It's a long shot, but I'm searching for the cover of an Inferno! issue that struck me as a kid/teen, in the late 90s/first years of 2000.
It was maybe an imperial titan, but I remember there was a huge chainsword, maybe with a flamer attached, painted with yellow and black stripes.

This might be a strange thought, but the tariffs have been on my mind. I know some local players who leaned heavily on Hong Kong recasts, which for the time being are currently shut down. Combined with official GW price hikes, I'm wondering if a slight silver lining to all this will be a return of a focus on actual hobbying. Kitbashing, more acceptabce of 3rd party parts, scratchbuilds. That is the stuff that was a normal and major part of hobbying back in the early 2000s but these days has been consumed by simply buying exactly what you want. I'm sure 3D printing will take up some of the slack, but even then a lot of people don't have access to printers or access to really good ones, so things like vehicles, dreads, and conversions using basic infantry minis as a basis might come back in vogue in an art-through-adversity way.

I haven't bought any GWs in decades.
I am the custodian of the collection of two gaming groups from the 90s.
By now the stuff is basically mine, the groups have been inactive for decades, still I see myself merely as the custodian.
I only play specialist and board games now, Necromunda, Space Hulk, WarhammerQuest/HeroQuest.
The vast collection of minis comes in handy with those.
The pic is from when the stuff was lugged over to my place over 15 years ago.

What would be a decent core marine force that could be used across 3rd to any midhammer?. I have been thinking about a captain, 2 tacticals, 1 assault, 2 5-men devastators, a dread, 2 Rhino/Razorback and probably a Predator.
I am not sure how to equip my devastators though, used to play Guard back in 4th/5th, first time i played marines was with HH 2.0 so i don't want to think of them as HSS with lascannons.
