The MLB Players Union, the strongest sports union, was created because a on May 15, 1912 a tammany hall worker with no hands named Claude Lucker told Ty Cobb that Cobb's mother was a "nigger fucker" and that Cobb was a "half nigger". So Cobb leapt into the stands and beat the shit out of the guy one onlooker said >stop he has no hands And Cobb replied >"I don't care if he's got no feet!" as he beat the shit out of the man to the sound of the crowd cheering. Ty Cobb was then suspended indefinably which lead to all of the other tigers players going on strike until Cobb was reinstated, even paying a $100 fine per player ($3,500 in today's money) until the league reinstated Cobb 6 games after the original suspension Pic related is Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson. Christy refused to play on Sundays because he wasn't no jew and tragically died of tuberculosis he as inflicted with as the result of an accident during WWI training where he got gassed with mustard gas Also funfact, Tedd Williams is the only hall of fame player to fight in 2 world wars and Willy Mays is the most recent hall of famer to be deployed in a war. Not sure if he was the most recent inducted, but his service was the most recent

Yeah but I just read the wikipedia, this guy lucker was riding him all series bro and even before that. Cobb even stayed in the outfield between changeovers to not have to hear it. He was massively restrained and then just lost it Cobb did the right thing

The Players Union was created to negotiate an end to the Reserve Clause, which bound a player to a team in perpetuity. It's impetus was the 1969 trade of Curt Flood from the Cardinals to the Phillies. Flood refused to report to the Phillies and went to court, contending that he could not be bought and sold like property.

ty cobb is one of the most based men to ever live. dude was a total badass. On August 13, 1912, the Tigers were once again to play the New York Highlanders at Hilltop Park, Cobb reported that he and his wife were driving to a train station in Syracuse that was to transport him to the game when three intoxicated men had stopped him on the way. When Cobb got out of the car to confront the men, they demanded money and instigated a physical fight, with Cobb defending himself from one of the men by punching him in the chin as another fled the scene. After being grabbed by the neck by the third man, the man had pulled a knife and stabbed him in the back before he forced him away and returned to his car and continued driving to the station for the game. Cobb refused to speak further of the incident. He would go on to hit 2–3 with two singles and a run scored in the game, which the Tigers lost 2–3

>fight in 2 world wars he was 3 months old when WWI ended. he did ww2 and korea anyway, fuck unions. gatekeeping fags ruin literally everything. >pro sports >public schools >cars >plumbers >electricians >carpenters >movies and tv >police and fire >teamsters actually the teamsters did a pretty good job of keeping illegals out of big rigs until they lost influence, but everywhere else unions are involved becomes terribly expensive and/or extremely poor quality.
