How did glasses go from being invented in the 14th century just as a reading aid and staying that way for centuries until it became basically expected for a fourth of the 40+ population to wear them all day in the 20th century? And now like 90% of east Asian zoomers use them? Is myopia a social contagion like transgenderism or glass delusion, that spread after figures like Benjamin Franklin and Harold Lloyd made it fashionable and high status? Does this also explain the revulsion glassoids feel towards laser surgery and lenses, that the myopia is more like a subconscious urge to wear glasses than an actual problem with the eye?

Its sincerity is nearly lifelike.

Yes. Notice how it's primarily nerd communities that are struck by glassopathy are the same ones struck by transgenderism.

Or maybe it's because we stopped selecting for good vision since glasses exist

Its need for acceptance is overwhelming. It responds to nearly every stimulus no matter how painful. Forever unloved, even by its own mother.

It's principaly the lack of lead or chromium, it appears that either results in inproperly grown bones. There isn't enough space for the eye to focus at the distance.

People used to go outside, now they don't do that.

If you needed glasses in the 14th century you absolutely needed them as a necessity. In modern times glasses are a commodity and basically everyone will experience some type of degeneration as they age so glasses are often prescribed or recommended because they are so cheap. Regardless if it's a disability to not have them.Asian countries are different in that they really clamp down on any vision deficiencies extremely early based on a belief that glasses use early in childhood stops future vision degeneration. Forcing someone to use glasses at a young age makes the habit and attachment stronger.I've actually found it to be the opposite for westerners to prefer glasses. Usually people want to move to contacts or surgery ASAP to drop the dysgenic or nerdy appearance. Assuming they needed glasses in childhood or as a young adult. Personal appearance at that stage is much more important than the risks from surgery.Older adults who find themselves starting to wear glasses often don't care about appearance at their point in life. Surgery is often seen as an unnecessary risk and expense compared to glasses which is basically zero.
