Is he right?
Did OpenAI's GPT-7 just drop a Nagasaki on Math?

I mean, post-nuke Japan was a flourishing country, but vastly altered. Perhaps if there was one more nuke, the country could even be decent. Maybe the same will happen to math.

Math as it was understood pre 2026? Yes, that's finished.
But it will transform. As of now, AI is the calculator for proofs. Proofs will become like arithmetic problems, trivial. The work will shift to higher levels that are difficult to articulate now.
Some time later, these higher levels will also be taken over by AI. From then on, it's "human flourishing" all the way down.

The great thing about AI solving all the math problems is that everyone will realize that none of it mattered anyway.

How do you make humans flourish? Hundreds of Hiroshimas and Nagasakis?

In four years time, researchers in every faculty will just be using AI as part of their standard practice, and science will be proceeding very very efficiently. The future is looking good, and mathematicians are going to be making insane progress

Maths were always for autists dabbling and paving the way for physicists to use later. A chatbot will never get drunk and make up some nonsense that turns out to solve faster than light travel a century later

Especially now that NS flop might not even pass peer review?
>lean proof is gibberish that has no relation to NL proof and might not even relate to NS at all

I bet Leonard Euler would have loved AI“Where we’re going, we won’t need eyes to see”, “Where we’re going, we won’t need brains to think”, etc
