What is the evolutionary reason behind dogs being so aggressive?
Every other animal in the animal kingdom has evolved to avoid conflict unless absolutely necessary, but for some reason dogs become instantly aggroed when you enter their line of sight, and if not restrained will pursue and fight their target to the death.
Dogs can be trained to suppress this instinct, but even this is not foolproof, as even professionally trained dogs have been known to inexplicably snap.
This phenomenon has been the tragic end of many dogs and humans alike. Why hasn't this wanton aggressiveness been selected out as it has in most other species?

Because they were selected for their aggression as a functional utility by a third party.
Either as guard dogs or hunting dogs.

It's neoteny. Pit bulls were intentionally bred infantile, because the dog needs to be infantile to think that fighting a bull is a good idea. A grown up dog easily recognizes the insanity of it, and tries to escape.

Wolfes are way more aggressive (even tho your childhood documentaries said otherwise). They kill and eat each other, go on killing sprees, eat their children, etc etc. Its an inherently aggressive species.

literally headcanon. We bred that instinct out of most dogs a long time ago.That's what makes them DOGS as opposed to WOLVES
Cats and other undomesticated animals are a much better example. Dogs are a literal slave race

Animals are NOT inherently peaceful. The reason why you only see peaceful animals in your daily life in 2026 is because for tens of thousands of years your ancestors have been picking up rocks and sticks and smashing the fucking skull in of any animal that looks at a human funny.
Humans have been an extinction event for many, MANY animal species that thought they were the boss of their little sliver of the planet and got too cocky.
