In 2010 international maritime organization decreed that ships must reduce their sulfur dioxide emissions by 90% (!!!) That target was met within a few years, despite continuing to use heavy fuel oil, the dirtiest possible fuel. How was it possible to meet the target? By installing scrubbers that spray seawater to wash the sulfur into the ocean and not discharge it into the atmosphere.The result of this regulation was that sulfur dioxide emissions fell precipitously worldwide and in the atmosphere, sulfur dioxide REFLECTS SUNLIGHT so now the globe is heating up way faster than it was before.The climate regulation plans included a PREDICTED DECREASE IN METHANE EMISSIONS from new methane regulations, to coincide with the sulfur regs. The methane was never stopped and is increasing because of more power plants coming online and increased agriculture. Countries, especially China don't seem to give a fuck about methane and its warming potential, because for the longest time the effect was mitigated by reflective aerosols in the upper atmosphere. From a POV of self interest, after last year's historically cold winter, we're forecast to have a mild, dry winter this year due to the Super El Nino. That'll be a nice break.

With any luck this super el nino will hit Seattle HARD, where it gets hit by something comparable to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Day_storm_of_1962 ... in 1962 there was only ~30% of today's population and the invasive plant species had not taken over all forests like they have today. It will an epic shit storm that will paralyze the region for months (perhaps years) due all the huge trees coming down everywhere. Power likely off of a very long time in large swathes of the region after this storm roars through.

It's fucking hot, still 100+ degree days in September. The effects are the same as every heat wave we've had over the past 10 years: reduced agricultural productivity.The global south is heading into summer over the next few months... yeah, good luck to them. Hope nobody dies, thoughts and prayers, etc.
