so like is there a reason that they teach the cross product at all instead of the more general wedge product, which isn't limited to 3D and 7D and from which you can very easily derive the cross product anyway?

Wedge product is not more general than cross product lmao these are completely different things, though somewhat related. Cross product is not an instance of the wedge product, and you don't know what you're talking about. Wedge product gives you an object of a completely different class than the original space.

it's more abstract than the cross product, even if addresses the shortcomings of the cross product, is the proper foundation of determinants, and is used to extend integration to differential forms. the cross product is easy to learn and covers a huge number of practical applications correctly as long as you are careful to not do shit like reflections.

pre computer inertia, the gibbs-heavside truncation of Maxwell's into the telegraph equations using the vector algebra was simpler and yielded amicable results in their domains. They werent dealing with high dimensional vector databases, nor had weyl/dirac spinors been conceived so there wern't any of the appeal to quantum physics available
